Overthinking often pulls you away from what you actually need.
This exercise helps you reconnect with your inner signals — the quiet yes or no inside your body.
Step 1 – Settle
Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for a few minutes.
Sit comfortably and bring your attention to your breathing.
Let your breath move slowly down into your belly.
Step 2 – Name a pleasure
Close your eyes and silently say to yourself: “Now I am going to enjoy …”
Fill in an activity you used to enjoy, or still enjoy a little — for example:
- taking photographs
- painting or drawing
- walking, swimming, or playing a sport
- reading, cooking, being outdoors
There is no right or wrong choice.
Step 3 – Listen inward
Stay with the sentence for a moment and notice what happens inside you.
Ask yourself:
- Does this feel pleasant, neutral, or unpleasant?
- Where do I feel this in my body?
- Does my body open, relax, tighten, or resist?
Don’t analyze the answer. Just notice.
Step 4 – Follow the signal
Whatever you feel is useful information.
A pleasant feeling often points toward something that nourishes you.
A flat or unpleasant feeling may signal that this activity no longer fits — or that you are tired, guarded, or disconnected.
Your task is not to judge the feeling, but to recognize it.
Step 5 – Reflect (optional)
Ask yourself quietly:
- What is my inner compass telling me right now?
- What small choice today would be kind to myself?
Why this works
Overthinking lives in the head.
Your internal compass lives in the body.
By learning to sense what feels right or wrong for you, you slowly regain trust in your own direction — and making choices becomes less about thinking harder, and more about listening better.
